Integrative and Functional Medicine

Personalized Precision Health

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine
  • Alternative medine approach to healthcare that seeks to uncover the root causes of symptoms of a disease

  • Looks at each unique individualand examines biochemical individuality and exploring predisposing factors (genetic & environment), triggers, and mediators of disease

  •  Personalized treatment plans created through a partnership between the patient and their provider based on goals of care and quality of life

  •  Holistic approach  to create a healing environment that restores vitality to the body and individual as a whole.

Conventional Medicine
  • Specializes in acute, emergency, intensive, urgent care and standard primary care options

  • Some conventional modalities  include surgery, prescription medications, symptom treatment, vaccinations and standard prevention care

  • Primary care specialists and Insurance based practices

Functional medicine is an alternative type of personalized medicine that focuses on addressing the root cause of health problems, and developing an individualized treatment plan based on that. It takes a holistic approach to health, considering your diet, lifestyle, genetics, and environment.

Here are some key aspects of functional medicine:

  • Root cause focus: Functional medicine practitioners aim to identify the underlying imbalances or dysfunctions that are contributing to your health issues. This might involve factors like nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances, or chronic inflammation.

  • Personalized approach: There's no one-size-fits-all treatment plan in functional medicine. Your doctor will develop a plan based on your unique situation and needs.

  • Emphasis on prevention: Functional medicine goes beyond treating existing health problems. It also aims to identify and address potential risk factors for future health problems.

Here are some of the tools that functional medicine practitioners may use:

  • Lab tests: This can help assess your nutritional status, hormone levels, and identify inflammation or other underlying issues.

  • Questionnaires: These can help gather information about your lifestyle, diet, and medical history.

  • Physical exams: This allows for a comprehensive assessment of your overall health.

Treatment plans in functional medicine may include a variety of approaches to enhance quality of life, such as:

  • Dietary changes

  • Nutritional supplements

  • Stress management techniques

  • Detoxification tools

  • Movement emphasis

  • Sleep optimization
